Posting Images In Threads And Showing Signatures
You cant upload images to the forum, as that would increase the load on ProBoards servers. Instead, like many other forums, we rely on BBCode to attach images to posts and also to have signatures in our profiles.
This is done by "hosting" an image on a website and then linking to that image on here. So in essence you're showing off a picture from another website. For this example I'll use the photo hosting site Photobucket. Go to the website and join and then click choose files and select an image on your HDD that you would like to host on Photobucket. When choosing more than one file hold the CTRL button. Once you have clicked ok the files will be stored on the site. Skip the next page and go back to your album and you'll see your newly posted photos. Hover over the image and a dropdown box will appear with three codes. The first is a direct URL that you can use to simply tell ppl where your picture is. It will be displayed like this:-
CLICKY! CLICKY!
The next code is HTML code which is used on sites that support HTML codes for avatars, images and signatures:-
<a href="http://s285.photobucket.com/albums/ll78/Prevail_2008/?action=view¤t=Pokemontrainer1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll78/Prevail_2008/Pokemontrainer1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
As you can see it does not work here.
The last code is the one you will need and is the BBCode page. Copying and pasting that code will have the following effect:-
A PICTURE. Bravo! You now know how to display images.
When browsing the internet, if you see an image you would like to show but do not with to hold it you can simply right click on that image and copy the image location and then post it inbetween IMG tags. The IMG tag 3 buttons to the right of the YouTube button when posting to a thread or you can manually type
Code: [IMG][/IMG]
Avatars
For avatars ProBoards merely asks for the URL. So no image tags. Just post the 1st link into the profile avatar box of your profile and resize to 100x100 (or however big you wish it to preserve the image as best you can) and then save your profile.
And there you have it. Images, Avatars and Signatures.
Enjoy.
